Weaving colourful cotton threads into beautiful Zapotec designs
Situated in Santo Tomas Jalieza, a small town outside of Oaxaca, a collective of women weave traditional symbols and designs into textiles on the backstrap looms. We partnered with this collective because they support and encourage one another maintaining their tradition and then equally distributing their income between themselves.
Their designs speak to their Zapotec tradition, community and rich family legacies. Angharad was met by this collective of women, some sitting on straw mats, weaving colourful cotton threads into the beautiful textile pieces. This is a village where community is really at the heart of everything they do.
